Shadow

Shadow died on Friday April 11, 2008.  She gave birth to Baby Breeze a beautiful colt.  He was a big foal and he had to be pulled out after 40 minutes of her trying to push him out.  He was doing well, but Shadow was extremely tired.  She was so sore, she would not allow him to get milk from her.  My vet came out and Shadow ended up having a severe uterine infection, then got septic and then got colic.  We treated her for all.  She went through more proceedures than any of my horses ever have.  Friday morning she was feeling better, feeding Breeze and even eating and drinking alittle. She was trying to bite me when I came in to her stall to check on her and Baby Breeze.  I went to work that day and when I came home, I immediately went to her stall and found her in there in front of the door.  Wonderful Shadow made a great effort to stay alive for her foal. She loved him very much and at least got a few days with him.  I will always remember her.  I just hope that Honey will be ok when her foal, Mavrick gets weaned off of her.  Shadow was Honey's eyes.    I feel bad that the last days of her life was poking and proding and trying to make her better when all the while it wasnt.  We did give her pain medicine and you could tell that helped her alot.  She was too old to breed, she wasnt up to date on her vacinnes, her farrier and her wormings.  I thought I had done enough, but it wasnt.  I will miss her so.

Jersey December 7, 2006

Jersey died from heart failure (Myocarditis).  Probably from his wound from when he was a baby.  He was only just 2 years old.  This was so heartbreaking to me.  He lost his sight, was very weak, tried to eat and drink but couldnt after a while.  I let him go into the barn for his last 2 weeks before we had no choice but to give him peace from the pain he was experiencing.  He was such a good boy.  I loved him dearly.  Ace will also love and miss him.  Ace was his buddy from day one.  They were so close as was I and all of my friends who have come out to help out at my rescue.  He will missed and we think of him often especially when my grass starts growing outside of my fence lines.  Jersey always kept that mowed!

Jersey- 4 mo old Quarter horse colt.  Adopted on March 12, 2005!

01/26/05  I am thinking I want to keep Jersey.  But I may give him up to the right family.  He is so docile and such a baby.  Will wait around after I grain them to see if I will give him a treat or two.  Loves to be with the other horses and allows Bailey to eat out of his bucket with him.  We have been seeing alot of blue-gray hairs under his red dunn color.  He will either end up silver or Blue Roan like his mom.  He is getting quite big.  He is 7 months old now!  When we take the other horses for a walk, he will walk behind without a lead rope!  He cant be left out of anything!  He did pretty good with the farrier for his first time!

Very nice boy and very gorgeous!  Big brown eyes!  He is alittle shy.  Mom was blue roan and his dad a dunn. He looks like red roan/bay roan now. Just got him on Sept 25, 2004.  When it comes time for feeding he doesn't move for the older horses.

UPDATE:  November 16, 2004  Jersey is coming around quite nicely. Not shy anymore!!  Will come up to people now.  He is becoming much more trusting.  Loves to be scratched and groomed.  He is a sweet pea.  Getting quite tall!

Shayla - 28 years old/ Belgian mare.

Shayla was my first rescue horse.  I decided to keep her because I just couldnt chance that she wouldnt be used in some way.  She was 26 years old when I got her from other rescue.  She was so skinny and had multiple abcesses on her feet and needed shots, good food and her teeth floated!  for over a month I tended to her feet and gave her antibiotics.  She was a great girl.  She didnt know what real attention was.  She barely knew what grain was!  But when she did figure it out, she was in 7th heaven!  She was with me for 3 years.  We only had her give rides 2 times and she never drove again.  She would go out on my lawn during the warm months to munch on as much grass as she could.  And if she was out by herself, she never left my lawn!  She was a great girl!  People would see that she wasnt tied and was in awe that she would stick around.  She didnt even really understand grooming or hugs or kisses for over a year.  Probably wondering what those were for!  But then she would get into being groomed and look for it.  Alot of people and volunteers gave her lots of love.  She also taught alot of my foals their horse manners.  She got along with all other horses and was not an alpha or a docile girl.  On December 16, 2005 she died in my arms and gave me her last breath.  She was quite a girl and I will remember her always.  I wish she was still with me, but now she is fat and running everywhere that she can eating apples and grass!  I loved her so and will never forget her.

I give thanks everyday that she was in my life.  And I know she knew she was loved and well taken care of while she was with me.

BLAZE  20 YEAR OLD CHESTNUT MORGAN MARE.

Blaze passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2005.  She had shattered her back right tibia and had to be put to peace.  I will remember her always.  Its so hard to do that to a horse even when its a sudden illness or injury and there is no other choice.  But she is not in pain anymore even though everyone here at the rescue is in pain with losing her.  She is the first horse lost to us through this rescue.  We all loved her and she was a great girl.  She will not be forgotten.
